Introduction to my Adventurous Life

Hey there! I just wanted to talk about myself. My name is Tracy Nguyen and I am currently graduating this semester with Health and Exercise Science. I currently want to pursue a career as a nurse anesthesiologist. Throughout my four years of college, I am excited to take a little break before I go back to school. My goal right now is to travel. Travel while I am young and have the energy to do things before I stress about my career and more school. Earlier this year, I was able to travel to 4 different countries and stayed at 10 different cities. Something I am actually proud of because I have not traveled this much in my life. Growing up, my parents never liked the thought of traveling because it was just expensive to afford for a big family, and making sure we got to place safely without being paranoid of dying on the plane. It is crazy how much I have grown and seeing myself travel without my parents. I definitely went out of my own comfort zone to try and explore the world a little bit more with my own money I worked for. I have grown to be very independent and always wanting to pay for everything I have. During my experience of traveling, I realized I love food more than sightseeing. I spend more money on food than going to popular tourist attractions. Food has always been my top priority when traveling because I want to experience different types of food at different places- that is not Oklahoma. Honestly, every time I find a hotel to stay where I am traveling, I make sure I am nearby to the best restaurants. In my previous post about Toronto, I think Toronto has by far been one of my best trips, coming from a girl who went to Vietnam for a month then to Thailand for a week just a few months ago. Asia was very beautiful and absolutely worth the money because it was incredibly inexpensive, but Canada was pretty amazing. I got to finally see the Niagara Falls in real life and woke up to that view from my 17th floor. Overall, I realized I am always itching to travel and hopefully I can do that for the rest of my life (when I have my career together).

  1. This post is awesome! My wife and I have been traveling a lot as well in the past year. It's interesting to hear the perspective of a different traveler. When we travel it's all about the sights, particularly difficult hikes. We like to go far outside of our comfort zones and do more than we might think we can. On our longest through hike we actually forgot our lightweight pot to cook things in so we ate cold mashed potatoes for three days. We were filtering water from melting glaciers so they were ICE cold mashed potatoes! So I sympathize with your love for food while traveling.

  2. Hi Tracy!

Your experiences seem amazing! I'm in my fourth year, but am taking a fifth year. I have been wanting to travel, but my father is very protective. I also love food and love watching different videos of people traveling. How much of the states have you traveled? Your pictures are also beautiful. Do you think your travels will lead you to live outside of the states in the future?

  3. Hi Tracy!

I'm so jealous of how much you have been able to travel, especially your trips to east Asia! Also, I completely agree with you that eating local food while you're traveling can be more fun than seeing all of the sites. You feel much less touristy, and you get to eat some delicious food! Best of luck in your future travels and your goal to become a nurse anesthesiologist!

  4. Hi Tracy!

Wow! I loved your pictures, they made me want to see a whole album full of all your adventures. I have always wanted to travel but have never had the time/finances (I think those are just excuses though because if you want it bad enough you will make it happen). I do plan on traveling when I am just a little bit older and have my profession figured out and everything, kind of like what you said. I hope you have a great semester, happy travels!!

  5. Hey, Tracy!

I loved reading about your traveling aspirations! I, too, have a large family and was rarely afforded the opportunity to travel over-seas when growing up. That is why I have been trying to go to a new country every summer since high school! It hasn't always worked out, but I've picked up the slack when I can. My mom and sister are both nurses, and they love it. I'm sure you will too (:

  6. Hi Tracy! I have yet to see Niagara Falls so I enjoyed reading about your experience. I agree- I want to travel as much as I can when I'm young and before I have more commitments to people, jobs, and finances. I want to try to do an Asian backpacking trip because as you mentioned, it is inexpensive, and rich in culture. Lastly, the food part is so read haha, I always overspend my budget for food because my mentality is "I've already spent the money to be here, might as well try it while I have the chance".

  7. I wish we could all travel to India for this class, Tracy! We can made a journey of the imagination anyway... but real travel is the best! One of the CNAs who takes care of my dad is in nursing school right now, and she wants to work for one of those "traveling nurse" companies that send nurses out on temporary assignments all over the United States. Her goal is to visit and live (at least for a short time) in every one of the states. My guess is she will find some place she really likes and settle down there... but she is going to see a lot of states along the way in the quest for her favorite place. Nursing is such a great career that can allow you to travel as part of your work, and I hope you will have all kinds of exciting travel adventures to come. And that photo from Thailand is amazing! Wow!

  8. Hey Tracy!
I love Toronto as well (I have family there), and they have such a great variety of tasty food there that you kinda feel like you're travelling to different countries through food. You have done some really interesting travelling and I wish I could travel as much as you have. I want to one day travel throughout Asia too. Do you have a favourite dish from any of the places you've been? It was very nice to meet you!

  9. I agree that traveling is such an important right of passage in a way. It's so expensive but I think every penny is worth it when you get to experience new environments and cultures from around the world. I think sightseeing is my favorite, just seeing things that I could never see anywhere else on the planet boggles my mind and makes me feel like I'm dreaming. Damn, now I want to goon another trip.

  10. Hey Tracy! It is awesome that you got to travel a bit. I hope you get to go to even more places! Traveling is always fun and my biggest fear has been the cost of traveling, but you are right there are various places which are surprisingly affordable. I hope to travel to Iceland this coming year after I graduate. Also, good luck on becoming a nurse anesthesiologist. That sounds like an exciting career path!

  11. Wow Tracy, all of your travelling sounds fantastic. Southeast Asia sounds fantastic. Vietnam and Indonesia have such beautiful landscapes. Toronto also sounds awesome, and that picture of Niagara Falls is amazing. I am glad that you are getting to realize your goal of travelling. It sounds like a lot of fun. Also, Nurse Anesthetist sounds like a great career goal.

  12. I love Canada! I have only been on the Vancouver side though, so I haven't been to Toronto. I would love to some time though. It seems like such an interesting place. Also, I will have to try you trick about the restaurants. That is never on my mind when I look for one.

  13. Hi Tracy! I'm so happy to hear you like to travel! I love going throughout the states and I particularly love "traveling" to places in my hometown area I have never been. Where did you end up going? I completely understand the cost of traveling, especially with a big family. Pahaha I love that you love food! Do you like desserts or savory? I have never been to Asia or Canada but they both sound awesome! I personally love the 21c museum in OKC because they have GREAT food. I hope you get to travel more in the future!

  14. Tracy, I totally agree with you. Traveling is amazing. I personally find that traveling allows a different point of view that not many other things allow. Whenever i travel, a huge bulk of my money is spent on food because I don't really see a better way of learning about another culture than eating its food. It's also an experience that would be hard to live anywhere else.

  15. Hi Tracy,
I am 100% on board with you on the importance of traveling. I also had a big family and didn't have the opportunity to travel internationally until college. My major is international studies, so one of my requirements for graduation was to study abroad. I did it twice- I did a semester at sea and I also studied abroad for a month in Mexico in the summer. Both of them were incredible experiences leaving me wanting to travel more. I have grown so much from traveling and I'm so glad that you have had the opportunity to experience the same thing!

  16. Hi Tracy,

Your blog really show cased your personality well! I am so jealous that you have traveled to so many places and experience so many things! I agree with you that food is a top priority when traveling because I think food itself tells the story and culture of a place! I love to travel but I get really bad jet lag and plane sickness. I would travel so much more if i didn't or if I had the financed because I am a typical broke college student. It was nice to read bit about you!

  17. Hi Tracy! I find it awesome that you go out and travel on your own! I would love to travel, but I'd want someone to be with me just in case something happened! Props to you though! I also like to try different types of food so i would also make a food a top priority!

  18. Hey Tracy!
I absolutely love to travel! I actually had the privilege of growing up in Okinawa for a few years and I can confirm Asia is worth the money! I personally love beaches so my favorite place is not Canada but Guam(an island in the Pacific). If you get a chance I would strongly recommend to go!! Good luck with all your future travels and career goals!

  19. Hey Tracy! I'm so jealous you get to graduate this semester! I am so close to graduating this Fall and cannot wait to continue on in what my life has to offer! Also, I love how you enjoy traveling so much. I have been blessed with the opportunities in life to travel and I want to do it after I graduate as much as I can! If you have never been to Ireland I highly recommend, it is beautiful!

  20. Hey Hey Tracy, how are you doing? I hope you're doing wonderfully. I have to agree that I find sightseeing to be a low priority when traveling, although I can't agree that I particularly enjoy foreign foods either. I’m curious as to why you enjoy traveling, have you learned anything in your experiences? Were your eyes opened by some event that you saw?

  21. Hi Tracy!

It is so wonderful to see how much you have been following your dreams the last four years. I love all of the pictures that you have of the places you visited. I have heard that Canada is super cool to visit. Some friends showed me their pictures as well but really emphasized that the pictures did not do it justice! I hope you keep living out your dreams and travel more for the rest of your life! Good luck!

  22. Hey Tracy,
That’s great that you want to travel before going back to college. I really wish that I could do that, but you are very lucky. Whenever I travel to different places I love to take pictures and buy a whole bunch of souvenirs. But I agree with you, I love different types of food as well. Anyway, I hope you have a great rest of the semester.

  23. Stepping outside of your comfort zone sounds like it was a good thing for you. I know I have since I started college, but in ways that I never expected. I have also done a lot of traveling but across the state of Oklahoma. I'm hoping to do more traveling once I graduate. I'm also graduating in just a few weeks! I don't know about you but I'm excitedly trying to finish my homework these days! Also, good luck!

  24. Hi Tracy! Congratulations on graduating. That's a big achievement, and I hope you get the opportunity to pursue a career as a nurse anesthesiologist. I am also glad you are getting to travel! I always want to travel, but I almost never have the funds to do it myself. My parents too thought it was usually too expensive, so I traveled very rarely when I was younger. I tried to study abroad this summer, but as it turned out I couldn't afford the expense for two months. Have you visited Germany yet? I've only heard good things about that location from people I know who have traveled there.

  25. Hi Tracy, I enjoyed reading through your introduction post! I am super jealous but also happy for you on all the places you have traveled thus far. I am just like you honestly, always itching to travel and get out of the country. Don't get me wrong I love it here, however, knowing what is all out there is this world, I just want to go explore and see everything. I am honestly afraid of dying one day and not have the chance to see every inch of this earth! Hope you get to see all the continents and countries you want to see in your life time! That is my goal!

  26. Hi Tracy!
I think it is very amazing that you are majoring in Health and Exercise Science. I also think it is really good that you want to pursue a career as a nurse anesthesiologist. I think it is awesome that you have been able to visit so many countries. I have been to a few but I definitely want to visit Niagra Falls after seeing your post.

  27. Hi Tracy! It’s so nice to meet you! With that being said, I would like to begin by saying congrats on graduating this semester! I think it’s so cool that you want to pursue a career as a nurse anesthesiologists.
Also, I love traveling, too! I’ve always traveled a lot when I was younger, not so much as I got older because of school and other obligations. However, thanks for sharing your photos! It was much appreciated!
