Learning Challenge: Reading Out Loud

Reading out loud makes a huge difference in your reading than silent reading. I know when I am reading silently in my brain, it goes by really quick. Mostly because I read really fast. I do not realize the small errors in my writing unless I read it out loud usually. I know when I am writing, I usually get in the zone and just pour out all my thoughts. It keeps going and going-just like how rain keeps raining until it’s time to stop. Also, when writing, I tend to write redundantly because of my fast thinking and writing. I would keep repeating words in my head then it pours out onto my writing. Reading out loud also helps me catch grammatical errors. There are things you cannot catch silently unless you read it out loud. Not only it has to look grammatically correct, but also sounding grammatically correct.

  1. Hey Tracy!
I also read and write really fast, and so I find reading aloud can be very helpful as well. Honestly sometimes, I find it difficult to read aloud because it makes you sit down and take your time, and I like to do things quicker. But you're definitely right, it helps you catch errors you may have missed previously as well as improve your writing on a whole!

  2. Hi Tracy! I'm glad you found some use out of reading-out-loud. I read relatively quickly, but I struggle with maintaining attention so I usually have to reread a section over and over again. I've found that reading-out-loud helps keep my attention on what I am reading, and also improves my understanding! It's also useful to catch errors when writing as you said, and our professor even recommends it when spell-checking our stories!
